Wide Spots and Dumps: Carl's Picks for Camping in Mexico

One of our more sophisticated camps. Circa 2010.

Ever been tempted to camp in a soccer field or a Walmart parking lot? You are not alone. Now online for the first time, an excerpt from “Camping”, one of my favorite chapters from The People’s Guide to Mexico. As someone who has spent countless nights camping in Mexican dumps and the fabled “wide spots” (at the behest of my unfeeling father), I can attest to the veracity of Carl’s advice. Although personally I prefer balnearios.
