For those of you who have been following the Tenacatita story…The gates (which have blocked free access to the beach since 2010) are down! An article at Informador.com verifies that the gates have been removed (via legal government action). I’ve heard rumors that the people of Rebalsito are at the beach celebrating with a band. I have yet to verify that, but below you can see a picture of the dismantled gate. Evidently this is the work of the new governor of Jalisco, Aristóteles Sandoval, who made the liberation of Tenacatita a campaign promise. As of a few days ago, he was hemming and hawing about opening the beach–when he appeared in La Huerta last week, the president of La Huerta and various citizens expressed disappointment in his inaction. Evidently he took these complaints to heart!
I have no idea what this means in the larger scheme of things (each plot of land on the beach has its own legal story), but I know that, one way or another, that it’s buenisimo! Salud to the amazing people of the municipality of la Huerta!
