I’m impressed with the Mexican government’s creative efforts to combat Mexico’s image problem. Maybe it’s just because it reminds me of my favorite game show, Cash Cab, but I think the Mexico Taxi Project is a pretty great idea. The project’s creators use cabs with hidden cameras to capture returning tourist’s impressions of Mexico. I would love to see the outtakes from this project, in which passengers with piña colada-induced hangovers hurl out the window and little old ladies rant about ‘lazy Mexican waiters’. Or maybe Mexico Taxi Project could join forces with Cash Cab to quiz hungover tourists on Mexican history and Spanish grammar. Oh yeah, so you love Mexico? Who was Guadalupe Victoria, ese? What is the pluperfect subjunctive form of the verb beber?
OK, that’s clearly my inner nerd talking. Yes, I know that you don’t have to bury yourself in the ephemera of the revolution or the minutia of grammar in order to truly appreciate Mexico. All kidding aside, Mexico Taxi Project is a neat concept and I’m happy to see positive stories about Mexico in the mainstream media.
