Sad news from Mike Huckaby of Copper Canyon Trails:
“Geronimo Mancinas passed on January 7, 2012. Gero was our lead guide, and had been guiding the canyons for many years. His parents said no one knew the canyons like he did. As avid hikers ourselves, we enjoyed describing our hikes to him, and he always knew another gem to tempt us with. As a boy he had a job finding water sources for the numerous mines in the area. He is survived by his mother Dona Concha, and lots of brothers and sisters. Gero was one of 14 kids of Lencho and Dona Concha. ‘Descanses in paz, amigo.‘ ”
If you have a memory of Gero, we’d love to hear from you in the comments section. Send photos to managing_editor at people’sguide dot com, and we’ll add them to this post.
