In Tequila News…

experience tequilaForbes reports that tequila could be a good choice for people who want to drink AND lose weight. The study was conducted on mice. For a minute I was excited to imagine mice wearing tiny sombreros and drinking tiny tragos of Herradura, but then the author dashed my dreams: “Agavins, derived from the agave plant that’s used to make tequila, were found in mouse studies to trigger insulin production and lower blood sugar, as well as help obese mice lose weight.” So the mice didn’t get any actual tequila…Lab mice can’t catch a break.

Our friend tequila and mezcal expert Clayton Szczech (of Experience Tequila) is hosting a tequila event at El Rio BBQ in Vallarta on January 24. From the invite: “With Clayton as your guide, you’ll sample, enjoy and learn about Jalisco’s time-honored beverage and get the chance to top off the evening with El Rio BBQ Bar’s famous slow-smoked barbecue. During this limited participant, one-of-a-kind event, you’ll taste six tequilas from four different houses and become better acquainted with the distinctive qualities of blanco, reposado and añejo tequila.”

Trust me: Szczech is super knowledgeable and will be providing legit tequila. Oh to be in Jalisco…
